There is no question that a student’s mind is stretched and molded in the classroom due to lecture, class discussion, or homework. Yet in order for students to succeed as whole human beings, students need additional attention and care outside of the classroom. Obviously, there are a number of practices that aid in helping a student to develop. Mentorship has some of the benefits and implications. The mission of the Research and Development Center (RDC) at the Al-Haramain English School is to advance the science of learning by bringing together leading researchers in the science, social, and educational sciences. This mission has guided RDC in its programs of basic and applied research, its demonstration projects, and its direct support of school improvement and reform. Career development is vitally important for today’s youth, who are more than ever motivated but directionless (Schneider & Stevenson, 1999). Young people have high ambitions, expecting to be highly educated and have professional careers, yet research has found that many do not develop coherent plans for achieving their goals (ibid.). Almost two-thirds of high school graduates enter postsecondary education immediately after high school; yet more than a third of those leave within two year s without earning any degree (NCES, 2001). Career guidance and academic counselling can provide students with the necessary tools to set career goals, and give them an understanding of the education and skills they need to meet their goals.

The academic year is divided into two terms- Term I (June to September) and Term II (October to March). Two formative Assessments and a Summative Assessment are conducted in each term. Grades are awarded in the progress cards which are distributed directly to the parents. Students are assessed in both Scholastic and Co-Scholastic areas. Promotion to the next higher class will be based on the student’s achievement in the CCE and the two Summative Assessments. It is compulsory for classes VI to X to score pass marks in FA and SA separately.
Evaluation of class XI is school based and of class XII is the All India Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the CBSE. It is mandatory for students of class XII to score pass mark in each individual elective subject and practicals.
Various activities targeted for the all round development of the personality of the child takes place in school. They include debates, public speaking, quiz competitions, recitations, extempore, drawing, painting, athletics, seminars, projects and tours. Sports meet, annual day and literary competitions are conducted every year. Intra and inter school competitions are conducted to foster the spirit of participation, leadership and a healthy competition. Cultural programmes and activities to develop creative writing are also emphasized. Innovative workshops and camps on novel ideas like visual media, documentaries and discussion on current events, journalism, departmental activities and days of global importance are added activities in the co-scholastic field. Students are inspired and motivated to participate in all these activities to mould them into versatile geniuses. Karate classes are also held for boys and girls.
